Moro No Brasil (The Sound of Brazil)

Moro No BrasilBrazilian musical rhythms have fired the imagination of Finnish director Mika Kaurismäki from an early age.

To make Moro No Brasil (The Sound of Brazil), he trekked over 4,000 kilometres in two months chronicling his quest to get to know the country better and trace the roots of the samba.

The emphasis is on the role of music in everyday life, and despite the sometimes grinding poverty encountered, the tone is insistently upbeat, taking its cues from spectacular native costumes and celebrations as well as the music itself.
