| Nun More Deadly This
is the latest film from WYD-EYE and the result of an international
script competition for a detective film noir set in Waterford. The project came about when it was discovered that
crime writer Raymond Chandler had a close connection with Waterford.
The creator of hardboiled detective Philip Marlowe and writer of
the Big Sleep spent his childhood summers in the city during the
1890's. WYD-EYE made contact with Waterford writer Bill Long
who remembers meeting Chandler in London in the 1950's. The two
would sit and talk in Chandler's study over a drink and reminisce
about the place and its people. It was on one of these occasions
that Chandler spoke of setting a Philip Marlowe novel in Waterford.
Unfortunately, he died before putting pen to paper. Dublin writer Rodney Lee wrote the winning script.
He has previously won the 2004 Tiernan McBride Screenplay Award
for his feature-length script "69" and is currently working on a
radio drama for Lyric FM and a full play for the Fishamble Theatre
Company. St. Patrick's Church, Saturday 23 October, 7.15 pm
