Choral - The Swingle Singers

In conjunction with Festival of Music at Christ Church with special thanks to Shaws and Aer Arann for their support

The Swingle Singers is an a cappella group, based in London, UK; eight young singers who continue a fine singing tradition : an exciting mix of music : the group which has toured the world with their 'a capella' shows including classical, opera, jazz , film and TV standards. Waterford debut : a must for lovers of choral music. "The Swingle Singers pitched those mysteriously lovely chords with laser-like precision...on a purely musical level this performance was a triumph" Ivan Hewett, The Telegraph www.swinglesingers.com | Fri. 26th Oct. at Christchurch Cathedral

Jeff Martin (ex Tea Party) and Wayne Sheehy

is a multi-talented songwriter who continues to draw his inspiration from around the globe, channelling his love of eastern instruments, tunings and all things exotic into a new rock form of world music that transcends genres and removes barriers continually. Accompanied by legendary percussionist, Wayne P Sheehy, their recent gigs have been described as ‘like watching Jeff Buckley, Jimmy Page, John Bonham and a choir of angels’. Don’t miss this opportunity to see a rare talent in the intimate setting of St. Patrick's United Church, Patrick St. Waterford. We are talking about songwriting, singing, playing and performing to a level you won’t witness every day…

supported by GIVE ME ROSA

Dirty dark indie blues is what you get with Give Me Rosa. Featuring the vocal talents of Goddess Anna Jordan, the guitar chops of Screaming John O’Halloran and the pounding bass of Thumping Dave Fitz. GMR started in July and have been garnering plaudits all over town.

Liam O'FlynnIrish Trad - Liam O’Flynn with Paddy Glacken

Liam O’Flynn was a member of Planxty the legendary group that brought Irish trad to a new level. He has worked with the Everly Brothers, Enya, Kate Bush, Nigel Kennedy and Mark Knopfler. He has also worked on film scores, including "A River Runs Through It" and "Kidnapped". He was adventurous enough to work with avant-garde composer John Cage, but his most natural alliance was with neo-romantic composer Shaun Davey. He has also worked on projects with Seamus Heaney, mixing poetry with music. Liam is joined on this tour by legendary fiddler Paddy Glacken.

NeeMANeeMA

NEeMA was born in Montreal of Egyptian and Lebanese descent, and has spent most of her life trying to understand her place in this world. NEeMA's presence on and off stage is rich and charismatic, and her voice is very honest and unique.  She has met the Dalai Lama and Mother Teresa; she has managed an isolated Aboriginal community in the North of Canada and worked with street children in Egypt.  She is a traveler of the world and has an undeniable talent to communicate her journey through her very truthful yet uplifting songs.  Her songs have a strong social message of understanding and hope for peace, and can honestly be said to be international, crossing boundaries with ease. NEeMA has recently completed her debut album Masì Cho (meaning thank you in Tlicho).

John Haggis and friends

an appreciator/ musician/ producer/ promoter/ collector and distributor of music in all its shapes and sizes. John started 'Sofa Records' with his long time friend Derek Leahy. They released three compilations and a whole heap of albums and singles over the last three years for the likes of The Heard, Rafter, Dae kim, and Rulers of the Planet and Stanley Super 800. This month he has released a new album of songs and sounds by the name of 'Back to Christiana'.

The album was made with the help of some of his friends and hero's. Terry Cullen on Drums; John Spudman on Bass; Katie Kim on vocals and guitar, Dave Heard & Dave Grimes on Guitars; Ilya Mick on the teramin; Ray Keheo on Bass, Keys, Harmoanium and guitar and also The Mighty Kloosh on percussion.

also PHAD Hennessy

Phad Hennessy and his pick-up band featuring the legendary Mssrs. Brian Moore, Dylan Bible and Wayne Matthews play a kind of organic alt-folk rock. From world-weary wanderings to life celebration via rage’n’rant, each song strives to capture its own little piece of the universe in a bottle. And it’s a bottle well worth drinking from.

Wacky Apple | Mon. 29th Oct | 5 -7pm Free

DARK ROOM NOTES

Dark Room Notes, true to their name, sing dark songs of obsession, addiction, lust and passion. Despite this, they manage to be strangely uplifting, the songs buoyed along on a wave of electro-indie and male-female vocals calling to mind Human League and Joy Division. Dark Room Notes are a smart and stylish young band, exciting and exhilarating with sophisticated tunes to boot. Their single ‘Love like Nicotine’ is a classic slice of indie perfection.

KATIE KIM

A songwriter of talent with a voice to burn ice and melt fire, Katie Kim is finally getting the recognition she so clearly deserves. Live, abetted by extra instrumentation and vox, her songs emerge and evolve before your ears, eerie and beguiling. If you haven’ already been, prepare to be seduced.

NINA HYNES

Nina Hynes is surely one of Ireland’s most interesting songwriters and performers. The release of the album ‘Really Really Do’, earlier this year, helped only to confirm this. She is a prolific tourer, and her shows conjure up aa wide range of emotions. She possesses an ethereal voice of almost dreamlike quality which lays itself bare for the listener.
