Information on Exhibitions
Bodega : Two Journeys
Waterford artist Christine O'Brien Shanahan spent a week in Tuscany in March 2006. Some of the works included are based on studies made during that time and are being shown here for the first time. Now painting primarily in oils and acrylics Christine has worked in performance, installation, video and environmental art, ceramics and photography since graduating in 1985. With paintings and photographs in private collections locally and in Dublin, Galway, Athlone, London, Perth and Sydney, the environment continues to be an integral element in her work, with themes of place and time recuring.
Paddy Dwan is a native of Waterford. He has had several one man shows, Bank of Ireland, Waterford City Library, and this will be Paddys second show at Bodega Restaurant, John St Waterford. He has also exhibited in several group shows. In this show at the Bodega Restauran,t Paddy combines his love of wildlife and photography to portray images taken on the Saltee Islands, The Backstrand Co. Waterford, and Bannow Bay Co. Wexford. It's Paddy's hope that these images will give the viewer an awareness of the beauty that surrounds us and and the incentive to help protect and preserve these beautiful places.

Garter Lane Theatre Gallery : Maria Gallwey
My work is a fusion of abstraction and figuration. Landscape elements, particularly water are recurring themes, as is the exploration of colour as a type of ‘emotional transmitter’. I seek to make work which is open ended visually, resisting the urge to articulate fully the figurative elements. I like the mystery of abstraction, the creation of possibilities. |
Greyfriars Gallery : Hexagon
Greyfriars Gallery - first floor - Hexagon , curated by Anthony Costine and Jill Bouchier, features the work of six recent fine art graduates from Waterford Institute of Technology’s School of Art and Design: Laura Barron, Oren Little, Clair O’Brien, Suzanne Irish, Julia Kelly, and Geraldine Healy. Using a wide variety of styles and techniques including ink drawing, video, found objects, and handcrafted materials, these young artists explore themes of personal identity and memory. |
Greyfriars Gallery : The Shape of Things to Come

“The Shape of Things To Come”, curated by Ger Kennedy, is an open-submission exhibition for all artists in all media and will feature work inspired by the title of the novel by H.G. Wells. In a period when Waterford (and all of Ireland) is experiencing rapid transition on a cultural, social, political, and architectural level, the theme of “future-change” should prove a rich vein of exploration. Artists include: Tony Gunning / Michael Hill / Karena Ryan / Barbara O Meara / Tom Casey / Be Pattanopas / Antonia Splini / Berna Lawton / Ger Casey / Dorian Van Braam / Jane O Brien-Moran / Darragh Lyons /Paul Bolger / Robert Jackson / Jill Bouchier / Ciaran Lynch / Ken O Neill / George Goulding / Martina Coady / Mailo Power / Ciaran Conneely / and lots more |
